Found in numerous books of the New Testament, the Greek verb “hamartano” meant “sin” or “miss the mark.”
Jesus said it possible for a Christian to “sin” against a fellow saint (Mt. 18:15). Judas said he had sinned (“missed the mark”), Mt. 27:4. A wayward son said he had “sinned against heaven” and in the sight of his father (Lk. 15:18).
Paul said “all” (Jews and Gentiles) have committed “sin” (Rom. 3:23). If we say we have “not sinned” (1 Jn. 1:10), we “make God a liar.” The devil has “sinned from the beginning” (1 Jn. 3:8).
