Found only in Lk. 7:7; Acts 15:38; 28:22; 2 Thess. 1:11; 1 Tim. 5:17; Heb. 3:3; 10:29, the Greek verb “axioo” meant “thought,” “count worthy,” “deem worthy,” or “appropriate.” A centurion did not believe it was suitable for him to seek Jesus’ help (Lk. 7:7). Elders who rule well are “considerd worthy” of double honor (1 Tim. 5:17). Jesus is “worthy” of more glory than Moses (Heb. 3:3). Paul prayed that God would count or make some “worthy” (2 Thess. 1:11).
