The Greek word “arsenokoites”

Found just twice in the New Testament (1 Cor. 6:9; 1 Tim. 1:10), the Greek noun “arsenokoites” meant “sodomite” or “male homosexual.”  Homosexuality is listed along with other activities (sins) such as idolatry, drunkenness, theft, and greed in 1 Cor. 6:9, and Paul said these activities will keep people out of heaven (1 Cor. 6:10).  In 1 Tim. 1:10, like 1 Cor. 6:9, the ASV translates this term “abusers of themselves with men.”

This word describes the “active partner” in a same sex situation whereas another term (malakos) describes the “passive partner” (this latter term is also found in 1 Cor. 6:9).
