The Greek word “graphe”

Found approximately 50 times in the New Testament, the Greek noun “graphe” meant “writing” or “scripture.”

Jesus asked if people had not read in the “Scriptures” (Mt. 21:42).  He also noted how some did not “know” the Scriptures (Mt. 22:29).  We read of “Scripture” being “fulfilled” (Mk. 14:49; 15:28) and “understanding” the “Scriptures” (Lk. 24:45).  We are told Scripture cannot be “broken” (Jn. 10:35).  It possible to “reason” from the Scriptures (Acts 17:2) and “search” them (Acts 17:11).  The Scriptures show Jesus to be “the Christ” (Acts 18:28).  Through the “Scriptures” we have “comfort and hope” (Rom. 15:4).  Jesus died “according to the Scriptures” (1 Cor. 15:3) and was “raised according to the Scriptures” (1 Cor. 15:4).  All “Scripture” is given by God (2 Tim. 3:16).  Some try to pervert the “Scriptures” given by God (2 Pet. 3:16).
