The Greek word “dei”

Found 101 times in the New Testament, the Greek verb “dei” meant “must,” “has to,” “it is necessary.”

This word has been compared to a triangle since this shape “must” have three sides.  Jesus said the Scriptures “must” be fulfilled (Mt. 26:54).  He also said “it was necessary” for Him to suffer many things (Mk. 8:31).  Worship “must” be in spirit and truth (Jn. 4:24).  We “must” obey God when man’s laws conflict with those given by God (Acts 5:29).  All “must” one day stand before the Lord in judgment (2 Cor. 5:10).  To be saved a person “must” believe in God (Heb. 11:6).  The first verse in the book of Revelation also has this term.
