Corrected and expanded post for ἐφημερία

Two subscribers contacted me about yesterday’s post.  One, with my appreciation, pointed out that ἐφημερία is found in Lk. 1:5,  8 versus Lk. 1:58.  The other made a very thoughtful observation which is also being included with my gratitude.  My apologies for the incorrect post!

ἐφημερία (ephemeria)

Found only in Lk. 1:5, 8, the Greek noun “ephemeria” means priestly “class” or “division.”  Luke described Zechariah, a division of Abijah which was of the eighth class (1 Chron. 24:10).

“It may be coincidental, but our word “ephemeral” means very brief and these priestly classes compared with that of Jesus.  Ephemeral ephemeria!” –David C.
