The Greek word agnaphos

Agnaphos is an adjective that describes unprocessed cloth.  Jesus used this term to say people do not use “new cloth” on an “old garment.”  This illustration meant Jesus’ teachings could not be “patched with” information from people like the Pharisees.  Such was also true for John the Baptist.  John’s preaching about “repentance” did not match up with what people like the Pharisees taught.

There are only two places in the New Testament where agnaphos is found and both are associated with Jesus’ teaching (Mt. 9:16; Mk. 2:21).
