The Greek word agalliao

Similar to the noun “agalliasis,” the Greek verb “agalliao” means “be overjoyed” or “rejoice.”  This term is commonly found in the book of Psalms in the LXX (the Greek translation of the Old Testament).  In the New Testament agalliao occurs eleven times and the primary meaning is “religious exuberance” or “rejoicing to the fullest extent.”  For all the places agalliao occurs, see Mt. 5:12; Lk. 1:47; 10:21; Jn. 5:35; 8:56; Acts 2:26; 16:34; 1 Pet. 1:6, 8; 4:13; Rev. 19:7.
