The Greek word “gumnazo”

Found just four times in the New Testament (1 Tim. 4:7; Heb. 5:14; 12:11; 2 Pet. 2:14), the Greek verb “gumnazo” meant “train” or “to exercise.”

Paul spoke about “training” ourselves in godliness (1 Tim. 4:7).  We can “train” our faculties (Heb. 5:14; 12:11).  False teachers may “train” their hearts in greed (2 Pet. 2:14).
