The Greek adverb “ἡδονή”

Limited to Lk. 8:14; Tit. 3:3; Jas. 4:1, 3; 2 Pet. 2:13, the Greek noun “hedone” meant “pleasure,” “delight,” “strong desire,” “enjoyment.”

“Those who are estranged from God are enslaved to diverse desires and pleasures” (Silva, 2:378), unless God delivers them as Paul affirmed in Tit. 3:4-5.  Apostate teachers are associated with this word in 2 Pet. 2:13.  Some misuse prayer in hopes of satisfying this type of desire (Jas. 4:3).
